The collective working panels are comprised of switchgear, protection, cables and accessories, overhead power lines and transformer panels, and represented by experienced power systems engineers and professionals from the networks operators.
The role of the panels is to:
- ensure compliance with relevant specifications, standards and UK and health and safety legislation
- deliver, maintain and influence engineering standards (associated with plant and equipment)
- present a strong UK unified voice in technical discussions and negotiations with global manufacturers and other technical bodies

Product assessment
Together we co-operate with manufacturers in assessing new products and witnessing tests. Products that meet the specified criteria are given an ENA Notice of Conformity Certificate (NOCC) through the appropriate Assessment Panel, primarily the Switchgear Assessment Panel and the Protection Assessment Panel. Participating in product assessment is voluntary and does not preclude the industry purchasing the product.
A key benefit of these panels is that network operators can consider and advise on best practice for test methodologies, commissioning and condition monitoring.

Switchgear Assessment Panel (SAP)
Assessments are managed by the Switchgear Assessment Panel (SAP) and undertaken by nominated groups of expert switchgear Specialists. Protection Assessment Panel (PAP)
Assessments are managed by the Protection Assessment Panel (PAP) and undertaken by nominated groups, of protection experts.
