ENA and Ofgem invite innovators to take part in Energy Innovation Basecamp

28 January 2025

The annual Energy Innovation Basecamp encourages innovative solutions for technical challenges affecting the networks and their customers. This year the areas of focus include data gathering using drones and circular economy in construction.

Energy Innovation Basecamp

The Basecamp launch event, hosted by Energy Networks Association (ENA), brings together innovators and senior energy stakeholders from a cross sector of industries to develop the next generation of solutions to the challenges facing the UK’s energy sector.

The challenges include using drones within substations to gather data, which is currently uncommon due to the complexity of the space and access restrictions.

Another opportunity for innovation is improving the circularity of energy infrastructure construction. The networks are seeking ideas to fully utilise materials, resources and energy at construction sites.

Dan Clarke, Head of Innovation at ENA, said:

“Energy Innovation Basecamp offers a fantastic opportunity for innovators to speak directly to the Energy Networks. This year we asked GB Electricity Networks and stakeholders from across different industries to share some of the challenges they are facing, both in the short term and as we progress through the energy system transition. The variety of the technical challenges this year illustrates importance of new, creative solutions at this critical point in the transition.”

Secure your free place at the Basecamp Launch event in Birmingham on February 13 to learn more about each energy network and their challenges, meet like-minded innovators, collaborate and partner, and ask questions directly to the networks.

Following the launch event, innovators will be able to submit their ideas via the Smarter Networks Portal.
