Energy Networks reaction to Labour energy speech

For immediate release – Tuesday 24 September 2013

Reacting to the speech from Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton, David Smith, Chief Executive of Energy Networks Association, said:

"A coherent strategy for energy security is welcomed and the networks have a lot to contribute to this and any potential Energy Security Board. As the Shadow Secretary of State highlighted, through innovation and the delivery of a smart grid the networks are enabling the low carbon economy from the islands of Scotland to the south coast.

"Smart investment in the grid will help connect renewables and support low carbon technologies through more effective use of infrastructure to ensure a secure, affordable and sustainable energy future."
