Smart Demand Response: A Discussion Paper

For immediate release - Friday 20 July 2012

Energy Networks Association (ENA) and Energy UK have launched (Friday 20 July) a discussion paper to kick-start discussions on Smart Demand Response (SDR) in GB.

The two organisations have been working together in this area for almost three years and this discussion paper is part of a process of engaging the industry and stakeholders.

SDR will benefit customers through the efficiencies it can deliver for networks and suppliers, in turn reducing the need for increased infrastructure. The roll out of smart meters and the development of a smarter network will provide essential information on electricity demand to help reduce the amount of additional wires in the ground and on pylons and in turn the cost of customers.

ENA and Energy UK are seeking feedback to the discussion paper over the coming months. This is an ongoing process but a review of contributions will take place in December.

The discussion paper can be downloaded from our Reports page and feedback should be sent to [email protected].

Notes to editors

ENA represents the ‘wires and pipes’ transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland.
