Networks welcome Mayor of London's plans for street works reporting

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1:00PM

Energy Networks Association (ENA) who represent the wires and pipes of the electricity and gas utilities have welcomed proposals announced today by the Mayor of London to encourage reporting of poorly maintained street works. However, any scheme must be fair and consistent.

ENA Chief Executive David Smith said:

"Utility companies share the Mayor's desire to reduce the impact of street works necessary for delivering these essential services to homes and businesses. However, with less than 50% of street works in the capital being carried out by utility companies (according to TfL's own figures), the local authorities and Transport for London must work to the same standards if the issue of works related congestion is to be resolved."

Notes to editor

ENA represents the 'wires and pipes' transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland.
