Trade association review

Commenting today on the decision of the Association of Energy Producers (AEP) board to invite Energy Retail Association (ERA) and the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy (UKBCSE) to open discussions with the aim of merging, Energy Networks Association (ENA) Chief Executive David Smith said:

“ENA has and will continue to work with all other trade associations in the energy sector. However, whilst there are many shared priorities and close working remains essential; due to the regulated nature of the networks industry, ENA does not believe it is appropriate to join the new association.

“The challenges of rewiring and replacing Britain’s national critical energy infrastructure and the development of a smarter network will require a detailed focus. ENA members will continue to work closely with the new organisation and others but will maintain an individual voice for the networks sector in the UK and Ireland.”

Notes to editor

ENA represents the ‘wires and pipes’ transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland.
