ENA Launches Consultation on the Future of the Radio Teleswitch Broadcasting System

Energy Networks Association (ENA) has launched a consultation to gather industry views on the future of the Radio Teleswitch Broadcasting System (RTBS).

ENA are the secretariat for the RTBS; an electricity meter and load control system which was introduced in the early 1980s to facilitate time of day electricity tariffs.

The system, which is currently used to dynamically control 190,000 electricity meters in addition to other functions, is approaching the end of its currently available lifespan and may cease on 31 December 2017 unless arrangements to facilitate an extension to the service can be agreed.

The consultation seeks views from interested parties on how the extension to the service should be facilitated from January 2018, or whether the service is no longer required in light of issues including the roll out of smart meters.

Further information on the consultation is available on the ENA website. If you would like to respond to this consultation please send your respons to [email protected] by 17.00 on 5 August 2016.
