what is gas?
defining 'domestic gas'

The word 'gas' is used to describe anything which isn’t a solid, like wood or plastic or metal, or a liquid, like water or milk or petrol.

Domestic gas has been around even longer than electricity. People in Great Britain were using gas to light their homes and streets almost 200 years ago.

In those days it was the only way, other than using candles and oil lamps, which people could use to see after dark.

When we talk about the gas we use at home, we are talking about a form of fuel which we use to make our lives safer and more comfortable.
