gas: resources for KS1 & 2

How do we move the gas around so it can be used in homes and schools?

Delivering gas from where it is made to where it is produced is one of the trickiest jobs in the world. Can you think of any reasons why that is?

Here are a few of the reasons it is so difficult:

  • Gas is flammable, which means it catches fire easily so is very dangerous to move about.

  • Gas is will spread itself out to fill the biggest space it can, so it is difficult to keep inside containers.

  • If you squash gas inside something too tightly, it might explode.

  • Domestic gas is invisible, so if you are not careful it could be leaking all over the place without anyone knowing.
