electricity: resources for KS1 & 2

Electricity can also be very dangerous if it is not treated carefully and with respect. Here are some ways to make sure that you stay safe:

1. Never touch anything electrical with wet hands.
Water makes it easier for electricity to flow through your body so always dry your hands before switching lights on or off or touching a computer, television or anything else electrical.

2. Never stick anything metal into an electrical appliance...
... because it might kill you.
So never use a knife or fork or anything else to try to get toast out of the toaster. If your toast gets stuck unplug the toaster and ask an adult to help you.

3. Never mess about with electrical sockets.
Do not poke anything into them or try to stick your fingers in the holes.

4. Be careful when playing outside.
Never fly a kite near overhead cables.

5. Beware of exposed wires.
Stay away from roadworks or anywhere where you might see exposed wiring, like a damaged streetlamp or a broken junction box.
