Exploring the engineering innovation of the future networks

For Immediate Release – Friday 12 July 2013

Registration has now opened for the only UK energy conference that focuses specifically on network engineering innovation. In its third year, the Low Carbon Networks Fund (LCN Fund) Conference, organised by Energy Network Association (ENA), will be the largest yet.

ENA is also delighted to announce that Energy Minister Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP will open this year’s event and that the conference dinner will hear from BBC science presenter, writer and executive producer Michael Mosley.

ENA Chief Executive David Smith said:

“We are proud to be organising this conference on behalf of our members and Ofgem. It offers a unique glimpse of tomorrow’s energy networks and an opportunity to see how that innovation in engineering is already benefitting consumers today.

“As we face the challenges of a complex and varied energy future, innovation has a major role to play in ensuring we maintain a safe, reliable and affordable supply. The LCN Fund conference and our Smarter Networks Portal are vital to sharing the learning for the benefit of consumers.”

By bringing the network operators and their project partners together with the industry and its stakeholders, it provides unparalleled opportunities to discuss and debate developments for our future networks as well as updating on the progress and learning from the LCN Fund projects.

This year's conference takes place on 13 and 14 November at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel in Brighton and is co-hosted by UK Power Networks. Confirmed sponsors and partners so far include Kelvatek, Utility Week and The IET.

Registration for the conference is now open and bookings can be made here. Registration closes on Thursday 31 October 2013.

Energy Networks Association (ENA) is the voice of the networks representing the ‘wires and pipes’ transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland.

About the LCN Fund:

Ofgem announced the Low Carbon Networks Fund (LCN Fund) in August 2009 which runs from April 2010 to March 2015. The fund will make available up to £500 million over the five years, encouraging and enabling the companies to trial new technology, operating and commercial arrangements which can aid the transition to a low carbon energy sector. £64 million funding is available each year in the competitive element of the fund and a further £80 million is available over the five years to help fund smaller scale projects. A further £100 million is available over the five years as a discretionary award to reward projects which bring particular value in helping the networks adapt to climate change while providing security of supply and value for money to consumers.
