Ensuring public benefits from digital transformation is key to Smart Systems & Flexibility Plan, says Energy Networks Association

Date: Tuesday 16th October

Energy Networks Association has today responded to the publication of a progress update on the Government’s Smart Systems & Flexibility Plan, which is responsible for implementing changes to our energy system, including laying the foundation for the UK’s smart grid, as part of the Industrial Strategy and the Clean Growth Strategy.

Commenting, ENA Chief Executive David Smith, says:

“Like so many other parts of our world right now, our energy system is undergoing an important digital transformation. We are pleased that today’s progress report shows how ENA’s Open Networks programme is very much at the heart of that.

“This transformation can be compared to creating an Internet for Energy. What’s important is that how the public benefits from it is at the heart of our thinking - along with the strategic issues that concern the running the energy system. How we use, manage and protect data is one of those issues. We look forward to engaging with the new Energy Data Task Force as part of addressing that.”
