Check the table below to see what information WPD publish and where you can find it. The 2 data sources are WPD’s Generation Capacity Register (GCR) and it's Long Term Development Statement (LTDS). If you have not previously registered with WPD, you will need to register to access the LTDS. Below the table links to some further WPD available data sources are provided.

Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES)

The Distribution Future Energy Scenarios outline the range of credible futures for the growth of the distribution network. Broadly aligning with the National Grid Future Energy Scenarios, these encompass the growth of demand, storage and distributed generation, also low carbon technologies such as Electric Vehicles and Heat Pumps.

Strategic Investment Options

Detailed analysis on the Subtransmission network for each licence area is carried out on a two year rolling cycle, and identifies thermal and voltage constraints on the network. We then work to assess options for conventional reinforcement and provide recommendations for low regret investment. The Shaping Subtransmission studies are also used to understand the economic potential for demand side response and/or generation constraint to avoid conventional reinforcement.

Network Capacity Map

The network capacity map provides an indication of the networks capability to connect large-scale developments to major substations. The map also displays National Grid Transmission's (NGT) Statement of Works responses applicable to each site which may further restrict connection availability.

Network Flexibility Map

The network flexibility map shows where flexibility services are actively being used on the network to defer network reinforcement. Signposting information is also provided which provides a 5 year view of the potential network needs using the Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES).

Small Scale Mapping

Small scale mapping showing substations, overhead lines, underground cables and network constrains may be accessed online via Western Power Distribution’s Long Term Development Statement (LTDS). Users are required to register for access to this service at the below link:
